Plugins galore! I’ve added some more plugins to the site, in my never-ending quest to add as much functionality as I can into the site, without bringing it to a crawl (keeping the user experience pleasant). There are a lot of intelligent people out there that devote enormous amounts of time to developing plugins for WordPress, and I’m extremely thankful for their hard work and efforts. The newest additions to the plugin lineup include:
- To more easily manage the high volume
of comments that are posted to this site, I added the Paged Comment Editing plugin by ColdForged. This plugin alters the manage comments administration page in a way that simplifies the task of browsing through all of the comments on my site. It also lets me see comments that were classified as spam by WordPress and normally not visible, even through the admin interface. - I’ve also installed the Paged Comments plugin by Keyvan Minoukadeh. This plugin is different from the above plugin, though the names seem similar. The Paged Comments plugin will separate the comments of a post into pages. Normally, when a post is viewed, all of the comments are visible on the page. This can cause higher load times if there are a large number of comments that have been made. This plugin lets you customize how many posts are shown per page, which creates a more enjoyable (and faster loading) reading experience.
- Last but not least, I added the Subscribe to Comments plugin from Tempus Fugit. You should notice a checkbox (when logged in) near the “Submit Comment” button that allow you to subscribe to any particular post on this site. Then, whenever another comment or change is made to the post, you should receive an email notification letting you know. I haven’t done much testing with this plugin, so give it a try at some point and let me know how it works or if you have any problems.
That’s all for now!
