Mariners vs. O’s - Game 3

May 26th, 2005 Baseball O's

The O’s were able to break out the brooms, and sweep the Mariners. Cabrera pitched well enough to hold Seattle to 1 run over 7 innings, and the Orioles tacked on 5 thanks to 3 home runs from Mora, Palmeiro, and Tejada. Sammy made a spectacular catch to stop a potentially big inning for the Mariners (top highlight on Sportscenter), and Jorge Julio and Steve Reed came in from the bullpen to close out the final 2 innings (though Reed gave up a solo homer). I’m a little worried about the amount of baserunners that are being left on, and also by the fact that all of the runs came on homers. Home runs aren’t easy to come by, and I hope that we don’t rely on them for scoring. We’re a great offensive club, and I’d like to see those bats get hot again with base hits, not just bombs.

Only one true Rally in the Valley

May 26th, 2005 Random

I was driving in the car on my way to work today, and a radio commercial came on that immediately caught my attention. Starting last year, my wife and I began hosting a get-together for our college friends and siblings called the Rally in the Valley (pics will be posted as soon as I stop slacking and find a nice gallery for the site). It was basically started on a whim, when my buddy Jon thought it’d be a great idea to have all of the guys get together at a central location, since we don’t get the opportunity to hang out with each other as much since we graduated from JMU. Since my wife and I live in an area that is central, we offered to host the gathering.

Mariners vs. O’s - Game 2

May 25th, 2005 Baseball O's

FINALLY. Rodrigo Lopez pitched wonderfully (like he should be able to do just about every game) and helped the O’s cruise to a 3-1 win. The O’s were able to strike early, and never looked back. I wasn’t able to watch this game, so I can’t pick a blown call of the game (darn… ;) ). A tip of the hat goes to B.J. Ryan, who has been lights out for the O’s when he’s come in to close out ballgames. Ryan picked up his 2nd save in as many games, and sealed the victory for the O’s.

Mariners vs. O’s - Game 1

May 24th, 2005 Baseball O's

This game was a heartbreaker. We ended up with the win (even though it was a lot closer than it should have been), but we lost two key players. Javy Lopez left the game in the third inning after a ball tipped off the bat of Bret Boone and into his right hand, which was exposed instead of tucked away behind his body. Javy was diagnosed with a broken bone in his right hand, and is expected to be out for at least 6 weeks. Then, in the seventh inning, Brian Roberts was hit with a pitch in his left knee. He fell to the ground and was in obvious pain. Roberts tried to stay in the game (which wasn’t very smart), but was removed after he slid into second on the hurt knee the following play and showed obvious signs of discomfort. It’s still not known how many games, if any, Brian Roberts will miss.

iPod Winamp plugin

May 24th, 2005 Software Technology

Wired.com is reporting about a plugin, called ml_iPod, for Winamp that allows users to manage their iPod music collection through the plugin, completely bypassing iTunes. Personally, I’m a huge Winamp fan, and I’ve had some concerns with the iTunes interface, so I’ll be checking out this plugin.

Phillies vs. O’s - Game 3

May 22nd, 2005 Baseball O's

Another disappointing game. Ponson had a mediocre outing, and ended up really hurting himself in the 3rd inning when he had 2 outs, a runner on first, and Jim Thome with an 0-2 count. He threw 4 straight balls and walked Thome. Then, with a 1-0 count to Pat Burrell, he threw a fast ball that Burrell deposited deep over the left field wall in the middle deck seats. Overall, a pitcher giving up 4 runs really isn’t that bad. What really irks me are the walks. Not the walks that are the result of a long at bat, the freebies that occur because for whatever reason, the pitcher just can’t or won’t throw a damn strike. In the Orioles case, those walks always seem to come back and bite them by scoring.
