I was called out at work today. Apparently, to this one individual, it appears as though I fake laugh a lot (or seem to). Now, before you get all worried and wonder “does he fake laugh at me?!”, let me explain myself. I love to laugh. I love to make people laugh (try to, at least). For some reason, though, I find myself offering a pathetic “hehe” with a forced smile quite often, and it’s usually when I’m at work. I’m not sure why that is, though.
I want to laugh, and I’m trying to laugh, but it just doesn’t happen naturally. Thinking about it now, I guess I feel like it’s more polite to offer a laugh, even if forced, instead of a blank stare. It’s an issue that I’ve wondered about to myself, but never thought or realized that it might be apparent to those that I converse with. I wonder if there’s a condition that I can blame it on…
Whatever the reason, laughter, whether forced or genuine, is thought to be good for your health and mood. Some psychologists have found that “forced laughter is a powerful, readily available and cost-free way for many adults to regularly boost their mood and psychological wellbeing”. So, if you say something funny, just be happy if you get a smile. Hehe.
