O’s vs. Detroit - Game 2

Tonight, the O’s look to get only their 2nd win in 7 games this season against Detroit. Rodrigo Lopez will be on the mound for the O’s, and his past two outtings were impressive.

@8:25 pm: I’m just tuning into the game, and it’s not looking good. How dare I start to say good things about an Orioles pitcher. Lopez had a dismal outting, and didn’t make it past the 4th inning, giving up 6 hits and 7 earned runs. The Tigers scored every inning that Rodrigo pitched. The O’s were also able to get some runs on the board, but mainly thanks to a fielding error by Detroit, which allowed two runners to come in. The O’s have their work cut out for them.

@8:50 pm: Rafael Palmeiro hit a grand slam to tie the game in the top of the fifth! Unfortunately for me, I can only follow this one online through MLB’s Gameday, so I was able to see that Palmeiro had put it in play and at least scored a run, but I had figured it was a sac fly since our offense has been sputtering against the Tigers. Thanks for proving me wrong, Raffy!

@10:00 pm: Jay Gibbons hit a double, and Chris Gomez scored to give the O’s an 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh. There’s still plenty of game left, though. Also, Geronimo Gil had to leave the game due to an injured wrist. We are really hurting now in the catcher position. I’m not sure who else we can use besides Sal Fasano…?

@10:45 pm: That’s what I’ve been waiting for! The O’s bats really got hot in the 9th inning, with Melvin Mora hitting a grand slam, and Miguel Tejada following that up with a solo shot to put the Orioles ahead by 7 runs. I think that’s a safe enough cushion to claim a victory tonight… :)

BAL 0 3 0 0 4 0 1 1 5 14 16 0
DET 3 3 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 7 12 2

The O’s record is now 33-22.
