Houston vs. O’s - Game 1

I was traveling home during this game, and was able to catch bits and pieces on the radio. Surprisingly, the best reception for 1090 AM out of Baltimore occurs driving down the southern stretch of Interstate 66 and the bulk of Interstate 81 before getting to the exit for our house. It seems like the closer we get to Baltimore, the fuzzier the signal. So I kept switching from the oldies playing on myPod mini back to the game, and was glad to hear that the offense came alive large in the 2nd inning and scored enough runs in that inning alone to win the game.

The O’s are back at home for a while, after playing quite poorly the last two series against Pittsburgh and Cincinatti. I’m glad I wasn’t anywhere that I could actually sit and watch those games, especially after seeing a couple of the final scores. All I care to say is that this first place team better start hitting and pitching better if they would like to stay in first place. Also, it appears as though the funk that is plaguing the O’s bullpen has been caught by our starters, because these guys have been having their struggles as of late as well. If the team is going to struggle, now is the time to do it, so that we can give it a run in the home stretch of the season.

Larry Bigbie homered in his first at-bat since coming back from the disabled list, and Hayden Penn was finally able to get that first Major League win after a pitching performance that wasn’t as good as his previous outtings. Sosa has also started to swing the bat well again, driving in 2 runs in the second inning for the O’s.

  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
HOU 0 2 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 5 9 2
BAL 0 6 1 0 0 1 0 0 X 8 14 0

The O’s record is now 37-26.
