A choice has been made. After weeks of scrutinizing over the various ultra-compact digital camera sites, reviews, opinions, and comparisons, my wife and I decided to purchase the Canon PowerShot SD400 Digital Elph camera. In the end, it simply came down to size and price. The whole point of us searching for an ultra-compact, was so that we would end up with a camera then can fit anywhere, inconspicuously and comfortably, and take great pictures. All of the cameras we were reviewing had at least a few reviewers that claimed the picture quality was excellent, so that criteria didn’t really help us narrow the field. We decided to visit the local electronics stores so that we could get our hands on as many of the cameras as possible. It’s very important for me to be able to handle and look at an item that I’m debating purchasing, especially when I’m expecting to pay a fair some of money for it. I think being able to see and hold the SD400 versus some of the other cameras was the clincher. We were both very impressed with how small the camera was, yet how durable it felt. Of course, we weren’t thrilled with the plastic doors that cover the battery/memory card slots and the input/output ports, but that was mentioned in many of the reviews.

We’re down to two finalists

June 15th, 2005 Technology Me

After a couple weeks of reviewing the options for ultra-compact digital cameras, I’ve narrowed the field down to two finalists: the Canon SD400 and the Sony DSC-W5. Actually, I never was able to find that perfect camera that was able to meet all of the requirements, but these are the best fit.

Ultra-compact digital cameras

June 2nd, 2005 Technology Images

My wife and I are in the market for an ultra-compact digital camera. Actually, she’d probably tell you I’m in the market for one. That’s usually how any of our tech purchases go. ;) Even if she won’t admit it, we’re looking to buy a camera that allows for the greatest portability, but also takes crisp pictures. Here’s a list of what we’d like to see in the perfect ultra-compact camera:

iPod Winamp plugin

May 24th, 2005 Software Technology

Wired.com is reporting about a plugin, called ml_iPod, for Winamp that allows users to manage their iPod music collection through the plugin, completely bypassing iTunes. Personally, I’m a huge Winamp fan, and I’ve had some concerns with the iTunes interface, so I’ll be checking out this plugin.

Out of town and myPod mini

May 15th, 2005 Interesting Technology Me

I was in Washington, D.C. the past few days, so I haven’t had a chance to write anything. I was in the capital to attend the 28th Annual ESOP Conference with other individuals of the company I work for. Since I don’t plan on mixing business with pleasure, I won’t be going into any detail regarding the conference, my company, etc. But I was in D.C. the afternoon that a plane had to be ordered to land after flying too close to the White House. Apparently, the threat was deemed serious enough that the small aircraft was almost ordered shot down.

I got my iPod mini…

May 10th, 2005 Technology

…firewire cable. Yay. Now I can stare at that cable and think about the songs that are going to be flying through it at 400 Mbps. I can’t wait. *sigh* Actually, what kills me even more is that Fedex hasn’t updated their tracking details since showing me that my iPod left Shanghai May 9th at 9:51 pm. I’m going to be extra antsy for the next 12 days…

Gift from afar

May 9th, 2005 Technology Images

So I finally ordered my iPod mini. I’ve been sitting on this decision for so long, just waiting for what I felt like would be the right time to make this kind of purchase. I’m honestly surprised that the prices of iPods are still able to remain so high. The popularity of these portable music devices doesn’t appear to be waning, and with each new model released that adds extra capacity, longer battery life, color screens…when will it end? So I placed my order through Apple’s online store, and took advantage of the free laser engraving to personalize it (since iPod thieving is the latest craze).
