What a week. And I don’t expect things to slow down anytime soon. Lots of work, lots of traveling, lots of chores, and little sleep. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

I didn’t realize Rodrigo Lopez’s record is 5-2. It seems like he’s had his struggles as of late, but it doesn’t look like that’s hurt the team too much. He’s been pitching wonderfully tonight, now just recording his 7th strikeout in the top of the 8th inning. The only blemish in his performance came in the 5th, when he gave up a lead-off homerun.
What a game! Lots of excitement in this one, as Chen struggled a bit, but was able to get out of trouble the two times that the Astros were threatening. Of course, Jorge Julio came in to start the 8th inning and proceeded to load the bases without giving up a hit. Mazilli then brought in Steve Reed, who ended the threat, but only after giving up one run.
I was traveling home during this game, and was able to catch bits and pieces on the radio. Surprisingly, the best reception for 1090 AM out of Baltimore occurs driving down the southern stretch of Interstate 66 and the bulk of Interstate 81 before getting to the exit for our house. It seems like the closer we get to Baltimore, the fuzzier the signal. So I kept switching from the oldies playing on myPod mini back to the game, and was glad to hear that the offense came alive large in the 2nd inning and scored enough runs in that inning alone to win the game.
I’m still upset over the loss last night. There’s no excuse for it, especially for a first-place team. Grrr.
The young Hayden Penn has pitched well for the O’s in his previous 2 starts, and he looks to have another solid outting tonight against the Pirates.
The O’s take on the Pirates tonight. Sydney Ponson is on the mound, looking for his 7th win.
Daniel Cabrera pitches today for the O’s, as they look to take 2 of 3 from Detroit. Bringing up MLB’s Gameday, it appears as though the O’s have brought up some guys to fill some of the outfield positions. Ramon Nivar will be playing in center field, and Napoleon Calzado will be out in left. Welcome to the bigs, boys.
